About The Event
Event description:
Dive into the world of the endangered Southern Resident killer whales and the innovative conservation work helping protect them. This presentation will explore the who, what, where, and why of these iconic whales, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at field research with Rouge Detection Teams, including how specially trained conservation dogs help locate whale scat for scientific study. Attendees will also learn about the remarkable “career path” these canine scientists take, from shelter rescues to highly trained detection dogs working alongside researchers in the field. Discover how this cutting-edge research advances our understanding of whale health, stress, diet, and survival, and how science and conservation are working together to support the recovery of Southern Residents in the Pacific Northwest.
Speakers:
Sydney Dixon, Marine Specialist, Pacific Wild
Heath Smith, Co-Founder, Program Director, and Head Instructor of Rouge Detection Teams
