About The Event
Our guest speaker and orca expert, Howard Takata, has worked with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) for 27 years, mostly on Columbia River projects: conducting research on juvenile salmonid predation, evaluating alternative commercial fishing gears, and analyzing and modeling commercial and recreational fisheries data.
After Southern Resident orcas were petitioned for state listing in 2023, he began drafting a biological assessment for Southern Residents, worked on the listing process, and is currently serving as ODFW’s Southern Resident Orca Conservation Coordinator. He has a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and a B.S. in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University.
